Peeling Back Layers
We rolled up our sleeves for some demolition inside 518. The cramped dividing wall in the bathroom was our first target—out it came, along with layers of water-damaged, moldy drywall. Now, the caboose’s original metal walls are starting to peek through, giving us a glimpse of both its past and its future. (Fingers crossed we can keep those exposed as part of our ultimate renovation plans!)

Next up: clearing out the remaining drywall and old insulation, then pulling up all the old flooring. If all goes well, that should finally free up the exterior door that’s been stubbornly stuck for who-knows-how-long.
Ground Control
The great outdoors got some love too. We spent a couple of hours weed-whacking along the driveway and trail edges, spraying poison ivy patches (carefully, of course!) and treating the ballast around each caboose to keep weeds at bay. Slowly but surely, the site’s looking tidier—and itch-free!
Trainspotting

No day here is complete without pausing to watch the trains barrel past. This week’s highlights? New York’s infamous garbage train (a reliably stinky spectacle), a fleet of intermodals, an empty AEPX coal train, and the short-but-friendly UPS train.
