There is something timeless about a railroad caboose. They were an essential part of freight trains for more than a century, providing space for crew members to work, rest, and observe the train from elevated cupolas or bay windows. Each car shows evidence of daily use, repairs, and practical modifications, reflecting the demands of life on the rails. Built to be functional, durable, and adaptable, cabooses remain a unique and important part of American railroad history, connecting us to the people and practices that shaped rail transportation.
